The Ship of the Dead by Rick Riordan (Magnus Chase #3)

Magnus Chase has gone on two epic quests since first dying and finding out he is the son of Frey, Norse god of summer and health.  Now it's time for one final quest to stop Loki from starting Ragnarok -- the end of the world.

Magnus must set sail with his friends to Jotunheim to brave the giants and the Ship of the Dead with its zombie sailors.  He also must find a way to defeat Loki and return him to his prison so the world is safe once again.

This is the final book in the Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgaard trilogy.  It's been a great series and this is a wonderful end to it.  It was great to see how all the various characters come together in the final book.  (It was also wonderful to have a cameo appearance by Percy Jackson and Annabelle.)  This is a must read for all Rick Riordan fans.

For Magnus Chase -- Hotel Valhalla: Guide to the Norse Worlds by Rick Riordan

So you've made it to Valhalla. Now what?

This "who's who" guide to the gods, goddesses, and other important figures of Norse mythology was commissioned by Helgi, who, after more than a millennium as manager of Hotel Valhalla, became fed up with answering the same questions from newly deceased heroes at check-in. The profiles provide essential stats, interviews, and personal reflections so you can identify the gods and avoid those awkward introductions. Handy facts about other beings round out this go-to tome.

You'll never see Ratatosk as a cute little rodent or confuse a dwarf with an elf ever again!

This is an amusing handbook to all things Norse mythology.  It is a great introduction for anyone wanting to read the Magnus Chase books.

The Hidden Oracle by Rick Riordan

Apollo's been punished by Zeus in the worst possible way -- he's been cast out of Olympus and sent to earth as a human teenage boy.  He's immediately set upon by two thugs before being rescued by a half-feral demigod girl who attacks with rotten fruit.  Now he must serve this demigod girl while trying to keep her safe and discovering who is stealing the power of the oracles.

This is the first book in Rick Riordan's new Greek mythology series.  It was a great read!  The whiny Apollo is surprised by his new human feelings and desires which makes for some hilarious incidents.  It was also great to revisit some of the favorite characters from the two previous Percy Jackson series.

Magnus must help Sam avoid the marriage with the help of his friends Blitz and Hearthstone and new einherjar Alex.

This is the second book in the Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgaard series.  It's a great addition to the series.  The peril is just as high while the humor keeps you laughing.  A definite must-read for Rick Riordan fans.

Demigods and Magicians by Rick Riordan

Percy and Annabeth Meet the Kanes

Carter Kane is tracking a monster through the park when he is accidentally attacked by a kid in an orange camp shirt -- Percy Jackson.  He's tracking the same monster.  Only by working together will they be able to defeat it.

Later Annabeth is on her way to meet up with Percy when she sees a girl in linen pajamas chasing after a monster in the subway.  They have to work together to kill the creature.

This book contains three short stories of when Percy Jackson and Annabeth meet up with Carter and Sadie Kane to try to stop an Egyptian magician determined to become a god.  A must read for all fans of either the Percy Jackson books or The Kane Chronicles series.

The Sword of Summer by Rick Riordan

Magnus Chase has been living on the streets of Boston ever since the night two years ago when his mother told him to run -- the night his mother was killed by wolves with glowing eyes.

Now his Uncle Randolph has finally decided to search for Magnus.  He wants Magnus to find the Sword of Summer -- a summer lost by the Norse god Frey.

But finding the sword is just the beginning of Magnus' adventures.  Now he is on a quest going through the Nine Worlds trying to save the world from the Wolf of Fenris.

This is the first book in Rick Riordan's new Norse mythology trilogy -- Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard.  It is a great introduction to the series.  It is immediately engrossing and catches you up in the thrill ride that becomes Magnus' life.  The Norse mythology is explained along the way to Magnus and the reader in a way that is completely  natural.  This is a wonderful first book of a series.
